Report of the Workshop

Objectives:

1. To generate mode of Teacher Education Program

2. To prepare the future teachers as per NEP 2020

3. To build skill and competency through holistic development

Inaugural Session

A National workshop with the theme TEACHER PREPARATION FOR NEXT GENERATION LEARNERS IN SCHOOL EDUCATION was held on the days 18th, 19th and 20th of March, 2023 in the premises of West Guwahati College of Education. The first day of the national workshop, the inaugural session commenced with the Gauhati University anthem, lightning of the lamp and felicitation of the guest. Principal, Dr. Gitanjali Choudhury delivered the welcome address.  Professor Nilima Bhagawati, International Secretary General of CTEF delivered the open remark highlighting about CTEF and its functioning and its relevance in relation to developing the competency of the teachers. This was for the first time in the history of Assam that a workshop on the theme has been held. Dr. Parijat Chakrabarty, Associate Professor of WGCE forwarded the objectives of the workshop – to generate the modeof teacher education program; to prepare the future teachers as per NEP 2020; to build skills and competency through holistic development; and to impart experiential learning as per NEP 2020. Professor P.K. Jain, President, Governing Body WGCE conveyed about the concept of NEP : i) to bring transformation in the field of education; ii) various activities are to be performed in educational institutions for smooth functioning of curriculum; iii) importance of teacher education at different levels for pooling out the talented children; iv) all the teacher training colleges must be multidisciplinary in the form of ITEP from 2030. Dr. Madhuri Isave, Associate Professor, Tilak College of Education, Pune the Resource Person of the Workshop emphasized on creation of ICT skilled teachers so as to minimize the traditional method of teaching. Vote of thanks was delivered by Barsita Sarkar, Assistant Professor of WGCE.

First day: First Technical Session

“Teacher Preparation for Next Generation Learners”

The technical session commenced with an Activity based task on application of Mentimeter which is of immense use for the future teachers. Mentimeter is purely an interactive tool which is very motivating for generating learners’ attention and interest.

After conducting the activity, the Resource person continued the session with deliberation on the necessity of NEP 2020 for Next Generation teachers at four different levels of profession followed by the assessment of the teachers. The Resource person discussed the benefits of Arloopa App; soft skill development; revised Bloom’s taxonomy; designing ICT based lesson Plan; and Continuous Professional Development (CPD).  

At the end of the first session, a group activity was conducted – every group was allotted a selective word so that every individual of the specific group need to brainstorm with several key words related to the selective word in such a way that it forms a story which should be meaningful and moral based. Each group started their respective task and on completion, presentation was carried out.

Second Technical Session

“Application of ICT in Teaching Learning Process”

The next technical session was solely Activity based which emphasized on the meaningful use of technological resources; like use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Education for idea generation, Blended Learning, Swayam, Podcast, etc. Next activity continued with application of ChatGpt/DELL-2 innovatively in Teaching Learning Process; followed by preparation of News letter; using DALL.E to create images as lesson resources. Each of the activities were performed by the participant teachers successfully using mobile handset and presenting their work individually. All the participants enthusiastically participated in different task allotted and they were highly pleased and pledged that will apply the same in future. Task was allotted to the teachers by forming several groups to apply mixture of AI, ChatGpt and DALL.E based on any theme of their choice to be presented in the next technical session.  

Second day: Third Technical Session

“Application of Pedagogy”

The session started with description on Advanced Pedagogy (in two major directions Holistic development of learners and Innovative Pedagogic approaches: Behaviorism– Teacher Centric; Constructivism– Learner centric; Social constructivism; Liberationist– Democracy in the class)  specifically based onIndian value based system Integration of technology for building competent learner with    21st Century   skills. The present day teachers need to adopt  Innovative Pedagogy such as Blended, Gamification, Computational, Experiential, Discussion based, AI in Education, Block chain in education, ICT based, Flipped, Project based and Art integrated.Teachers must focus particularly on Multidisciplinary, Interdisciplinary and Transdisciplinary approaches. Learning has to be Competency/skill based learning for example using Ed-puzzel/Padlet. The participants at the end of the session presented PPTs using DALL.E and Padlet followed by discussion.

Fourth Technical Session

This session started with the continuation of interactive activity on application ofAdvanced Pedagogy. Interaction occurred between the participants and Resource Person. Participants were very much inquisitive enough with several queries and clarifications with regard to pre-service training and school related activities in terms of integrating ICT correlating method subjects or school subjects including the probable problems which may come across during implementation. Even the participants posed queries with respect to availability of appropriate technology equipments along with the various online sources available for generating and sustaining interest and attention. They also queried about various apps available for academic purpose. The Resource person heartily responded to all the queries and clarifications.

At the end of two days sessions feedback from the participants were sought and then significant comments followed by suggestions were attended by the Resource Person.

Third day: Fifth Technical Session

The third day session initiated by Professor Nityananda Pradhan, NEIRIE, Resource person illuminated in detail with special focus on National Education Policy 2020 and Pedagogical Framework at School Stage: Experiential Learning. He elucidated on the concept, core principles, Pedagogue, teacher as facilitator, changing concept of teaching since Gurukul to present day of pedagogy in the teaching learning process; Assumptions of Pedagogy 2.0, Key Pedagogical Practices such as Flipped, SOLE, Maker Space, Critical pedagogy, Project basedLearning. He also mentioned on Pedagogy at Different Stages of schooling. Then Experiential learning: Cross-curricular Pedagogical Approaches was illustrated under the heads – Arts-integrated Pedagogy, Sports-integrated Pedagogy, Storytelling-based Pedagogy, ICT Pedagogy in different aspects of teaching-learning process. Kolb’s   Experiential learning model was explained emphasizing on Concrete experience (Feeling); Reflective observation (Watching); Abstract conceptualization (Thinking); Active experimentation (Doing) citing several examples. He accentuated the theory of TPACK which is most relevant and suited to the present day pedagogy.

Sixth Technical Session

The concluding session of the three day National workshop advanced with the theme “NEP 2020: Strengthening and Expansion of Vocational Education in India
 Challenges and Implementation Strategies”. He explicated about the Government of India’s Initiatives in Skill Development and Entrepreneurship; NEP 2020 and Reimagining Vocational Education –
Vocational Education atMiddle and Secondary Stages with Integration of vocational education programs into mainstream education in all educational institution. Implementation Strategies for Strengthening and Expansion of Vocational Education was clarified under various sub-heads. This was followed by Group discussion on Implementation of Vocational Education at School level as per NEP 2020.

Valedictory Program

Certificates were distributed to all the attending participants followed by vote of thanks, singing of national anthem and photo session.
